How to use Jelly Wax

How To use Your Jelly Waxer

Step 1 Preparing
  1. Turn on your heater, turn it up to the highest temperature, and pour in the wax pearls.
  2. Wait until you can see the beads have melted entirely in your pot. It should be about the consistency warm honey.
  3. Turn the temperature down to medium-high, and leave the wax for another 5-10 minutes. Feel free to stir the wax as you go. When applying the wax, the final result is dependent on the wax being the right temperature. The wax should be as hot as possible without being a burn risk. You can check the temperature of the wax by applying a small amount to the back of your hand using an application stick.

Step 2 Applying

  1. Use the application sticks included to apply the wax. We recommend applying the wax in the direction of your hair growth.
  2. Wait about 30 seconds or until the wax has hardened completely.
  3. Once the wax has hardened, rip it off in one quick, uniform motion.
  4. Pull the wax off against your hair growth, while keeping the skin around the wax taut with your free hand.

Step 3 Post-Care

  1. With post-treatment, it is recommended that you apply a good moisturizer or calming oil, such as Jelly Wax Aloe Vera Gel, to your skin.
  2. If you are a first-time user of JellyWax, it’s normal for your skin to become irritated, as your follicles are still very deep.

Tips & Tricks

Temperature

The most important criterion for a successful wax is the right temperature. The ideal working temperature is around 122-131°F. You can reach this temperature by warming the wax beads on your heater’s max temperature and then turning down the temperature, leaving it roughly in the middle between max and medium. Leave the wax at this temperature for 5-10 minutes before applying it. If the wax isn’t hot enough, it’ll settle on top of the hairs instead of sticking to them. If you find that the wax isn’t catching all your hairs, in 9 out of 10 cases, this is because the wax isn’t hot enough. That said, always make sure the wax isn’t so hot that it burns you!

Cleaning

You don’t need to clean your heater every time you use it. If you have leftover wax, this can be reheated next time you want to use JellyWax™. You can just leave the remaining wax in the heater and heat it up next time.

That said, we recommend cleaning the heater after every 2-3 uses. This can be done using hot water, mild rubbing alcohol, and a soft-bristled brush. To avoid bacteria build-up, we also recommend putting a lid on the heater as you heat, cool, and store the wax.

How To Clean Step By Step

Step 1: Start by turning your Jelly Wax Warmer on to melt your wax. You want to melt your wax in the pot as much as possible.

NOTE: Do not heat your pot without wax in it as the device can overheat, causing the wax melting burner to fail.

Step 2: Once the wax is melted and runny, take an application stick and scrape out as much wax as possible. You can continue cleaning by allowing the mostly empty wax bucket to cool down slightly. If the bucket is too hot, a liquid cleaner will smoke, and you want to avoid inhaling the evaporated steam from the cleaner. You want it to be just warm enough to melt the wax.

Step 4: Pour in the cleaner you are using. We recommend mineral (baby) oil into the container, and allow some wax to dissolve.

Step 5: With a clean wax applicator, scrape up wax remnants around the bucket so you don't burn your fingers. Continue swabbing the inner sides.

Step 6: When the bucket is cooler, you can lift it out, and clean the inside. Rubbing alcohol can be used to clean up excess oil but only use it on the metal bucket, and not on the exterior, or heating element under the pot.

Step 7: Finally, give it one final wipe with paper towel and you're done!

Guide To Waxing At Home

The monthly trip to the salon can be time-consuming and extremely expensive. With JellyWax™ you can sort out your waxing needs right at home!

Here’s everything you need to know to start waxing your bikini line at home:

Before the wax:
Let your hairs grow to at least 3-5 mm/ 1/4". It’s a good idea to exfoliate the skin the day before the treatment. If your hair is longer than 1/4", we recommend trimming it to the recommended length. When your hair is too long it can cause the wax to break the hair off at the skin instead of pulling it out of the follicle. If it's too long it can also be painful. So make sure it's the right length!

If it's your first time doing a Bikini line or Brazilian, we recommend having a friend or companion help do it!

Likewise, it’s a good idea to have practiced using the product on your legs or arms before trying to wax the bikini line.

During the wax:
Apply the wax in the same direction as your hair growth. Keep the skin around the wax-covered area taut, and pull off the wax in one quick, smooth motion against the grain. Start by applying the wax on one side, and don’t apply wax to multiple areas at the same time. It's better to apply in small strips. It may take longer but it will be much less painful and you'll see better results!

After the wax:
Remove any oil remnants and apply either oil or Aloe Vera gel to soothe your skin. Put on comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that won’t rub against the waxed skin.

When the weather is finally hot enough for skirts, shorts, and swimsuits, it’s much better to wax than to shave.

Apply the wax with the grain. Leave it to harden for 30-60 seconds. Keep the skin around the wax-covered area taut, and pull off the wax in one uniform motion against the grain. You can apply a layer of soothing Aloe Vera cream afterwards.

The wax treatments you get in salons are extremely expensive, but thankfully you can give yourself a wax with JellyWax™.

This treatment is intended for those who need to wax their upper lip, chin, cheek, sideburns, or neck.
It’s a good idea to have practiced using the product on your legs or arms before trying to wax the face.

Apply the wax with the grain. Leave it to harden for 30-60 seconds. Keep the skin around the wax-covered area taut, and pull off the wax in one uniform motion against the grain. You can apply a layer of soothing Aloe Vera cream afterwards.

By waxing regularly every four weeks, or as needed, you might find that hair growth and hair color is reduced over time. This wax is suitable for women and girls of all ages.

When waxing the eyebrows, you can clean up the final look using tweezers. This helps create the perfect brows and ensure that both brows are the same.

Intimate waxing hurts less than you would expect, as the product and the technique used are different from other wax treatments. The hair is ripped out in a different way using strips, and this method ensures that the hairs don’t break and that the skin isn’t damaged.

If it's your first time doing intimate areas, we recommend having a friend or companion help do it! Reference our "Bikini Line" instructions for more detailed instructions.

If you wax before a holiday, make sure to wax at a time when you can stay out of the sun for up to 24 hours afterwards.
The back and chest are waxed in the same way as the legs (refer to: waxing legs).

Notice! Your hairs should be at least 5 mm long to achieve the best results possible.

Not sure what to do? Here are the answers to some of the frequently asked questions.

1) How long should my hairs be?
Your hair should be at least 3-5 mm long in order to achieve the best possible result with JellyWax™.

2) Do I need to do anything before I wax?
There’s nothing you need to do, but it’s a good idea to exfoliate the area you want with a body scrub (or similar) – ideally the day before, but on the day also works. Keep in mind that if you exfoliate right before waxing, you risk the oil from your scrub settling around the hairs, making it difficult for the wax to grip onto them.

3) Do I need to do anything after I wax?
Remove any residue from your skin using hot water or baby oil. Post-treatment, it is recommended that you apply a non-perfumed oil or a soothing cream, such as Aloe Vera Gel, to your skin. If you are a first-time user of JellyWax™, it’s normal for your skin to become irritated, as your follicles are still very deep. An Aloe Vera cream might come in handy.

4) When should I wax?
Immediately after the wax, your skin is more sensitive that unusual, and as such, you should avoid direct sun and tanning booths after a treatment – ideally for up to 24 hours. With that in mind, we recommend waxing at a time when it’s possible for you to avoid the sun afterwards.

Furthermore, we recommend taking your time. The more time you give yourself, the better your experience, as you won’t have to rush through it unnecessarily.

5) How do I do it?
Apply the wax in an even level in the direction of hair growth (with the grain). Once this is done, pull the skin around the wax-covered area taut and pull off the wax in one quick, gliding motion. When pulling off the wax, make sure to pull against the direction of hair growth (against the grain).

6) How often should I wax?
Wax treatments with JellyWax™ removes your hairs by the root, so it typically takes the hair 4-6 weeks to grow back out to its full length after a wax.

The Waxing Cycle

Hair grows in 3 phases that spread over an 11-14 week span.

Phase 1: Anagen phase. This is when the hair is actively growing. This phase lasts between 4-6 weeks. This is why we recommended waxing every 4-6 weeks. In this phase, there is hair actively growing from the bulb and is rooted deep in the follicle. The follicle is the target when we wax. Hair that is waxed in this phase typically comes with the end of the hair called the root, and if you're lucky, part of the bulb. Waxing at this phase of hair results in longer-lasting hair removal, and smoother, finer hair after regrowth!

Phase 2: Catagen phase. This is when the hair has detached from the bulb, and starts shedding. This is the second-best hair to wax, not getting the bulb, but still getting a slightly longer-lasting result.

Phrase 3: Telogen phase. This is when the hair is shedding and usually comes out painlessly.

*You may notice that after waxing, there are a few hairs that will slightly poke out a few days after. These are new growth hairs in the anagen phase. You can get rid of this with a cleanup strip, or the next time you wax! The more you wax the more cleaner finish, less pain, and longer-lasting results you will have!
